Overview of 2016
As 2016 closes out, we give praise for the evidences of grace that God has worked in, through and among us. Because of your partnership with us in planting the Gospel in Morgantown and Fairmont, we pray that our joy would be yours as well.
Crossroads Church has been called by God to become…
An authentic biblical community, loving, encouraging and sharpening one another daily…
We see a community that gathers in homes around the city to pray for, connect with and serve one another and their city with an authenticity that surpasses friendship, a family that is ever-growing in number and maturity in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ. We see a community of diverse tribes and ages united under the singular name and mission of Jesus Christ.
Community Groups
Discipleship
*This year, discipleship relationships have taken off and most of the members of Crossroads groups are meeting in smaller groups of 2-3 for deeper community, Bible study, confession and prayer together.
*Three new group leaders have been begun leading.
*Five apprentices are currently being discipled and trained by their group leaders for future group leadership or group planting.
Community
*Many people were cared for, needs met, prayers answered, burden carried, and friendships built-up in 2017.
*People who were formally disconnected from gospel community grew in their desire and consistency in pursuing Christ and community.
*The trampoline park, picnics, Superbowl parties, Christmas parties, bon fires, lunch meet-ups, spontaneous dinners, and hikes include just some of the countless ways God used everyday activities to cultivate essential bonds of gospel community in Crossroads’ groups.
Mission
*One group served with Chestnut Mountain Ranch Boys’ Home.
*Two community groups served and built gospel relationships with elderly folks in retirement homes.
*People far from God and church visited community groups, Christmas parties, game nights, discipleship circles, and third-spaces throughout 2016.
*One group in Morgantown made over 30 blankets for children in the hospital for Christmas.
…with a passion for Jesus Christ bridled by the Truth…
We see a people infused with a burning passion for Jesus Christ built upon the solid framework of the timeless revelation of God through Scripture, a church that is unapologetically tethered to the Word and unconditionally loving of its city.

Read on to celebrate more stories of God’s grace in 2016
Star City Community Group
“The past year has seen our community group richly blessed with God’s grace as we celebrated the union of two couples from the group in marriage. One couple joined our group as singles working through hurt by previous relationships, and God’s sovereign grace provided the wisdom for them to take refuge in their countercultural relationship with Him. As each of them sought after God, He graciously provided them with each other and they were married.”
“We were blessed to serve the mission at Chestnut Mountain Boys’ Ranch, feeding and fellowshipping with a construction team to support their service of roofing a new school building for the Ranch.”
Westover Community Group
“Our group came together in prayer and service for a group member in need of home repairs.”
“We have experienced God’s grace in becoming more open, engaged, faithful, and pursuing Christ within the group together.”
Cheat Lake Community Group
“We were able to serve and meet the needs of several group members who were dealing with serious physical and spiritual issues.”
“We have been able to serve at a local retirement home, where we baked cookies, sang songs, developed relationships, and shared the gospel.”
“We started developing discipleship through smaller circles, and our group has felt more like a family in 2016.”
WVU Community Group
“We held a Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas party to invite friends and classmates, engage with our community, and talk about Jesus.”
“We opened our home on the weekends where we would have bonfires to be intentional about meeting with newer people.”
“Our group got together to make blankets for the Children’s hospital along with many Christmas cards all hand made, signed, and notated with Scripture. We then got to deliver the blankets to the Children’s hospital.”
“We opened up discipleship circles throughout the year and heard story’s of Gods grace, as college students are making it a priority to dig into Scripture weekly with brothers and sisters.”
“We participated in Morgantown’s Trunk R Treat. We all pitched in to buy candy to pass out to the kids, worked together to make the decorations, and then went out to dinner with each other spending time in prayer and the Word over a meal.
“The number of people offering to carpool, picking up and dropping off others of the group to get them to CR gatherings on Sunday and group on Tuesday has been amazing.”
“A member of our group started inviting all group members to lunch on campus after the gathering on Sundays. We would dive into discussion of the sermon we just heard as well as pray together.”
“God has been good to us this semester. He has really grown us in love for him, his Word, and community.”

“We worked together to help a group member move into her first house.”
“Additionally, there were numerous spontaneous dinners, activities, and burdens shared together over the course of the year. By the end of Fall 2016, we moved our group out of the Crossroads Morgantown location and into the Whitaker living room. The sense that we are ‘family’ definitely increased over 2016 and the especially during the Fall semester.”
“By God’s grace, we were privileged to conduct a service with hymns and a sermon at Sundale Nursing Home twice during the fall semester. This allowed us to also have some extended conversations with some of the residents where we were able to hear people’s stories, encourage some older saints, and share the gospel.”
