Morgantown Community Groups
Kaleb and Hannah Swartz
Hello! We are Kaleb and Hannah Swartz. We moved here in the summer of 2022 from Indianapolis shortly after getting married. Hannah is pursuing a doctorate degree at WVU while I work from home as a software engineer. In our free time we enjoy hanging out with our cats, watching/playing sports, eating local food, reading, and spending time with friends.
We lead the downtown (campus-focused) community group. Our group meets at 6pm every Tuesday night, usually at the church. Our group’s primary missional focus is reaching WVU students and those in the downtown area. We have regular group attendees ranging from current students to adults who have lived in the Morgantown area for a while. Most of our Tuesday night’s consist of in-depth bible study/sermon discussion so that we can actively apply the preaching of God’s word to our lives, with a goal of delighting in Christ more as we know him better and grow in modeling our lives after his. As a community group, we try to be active in spending time with each other via game nights, shared meals, and coffee hangouts.
Scott and Amanda Whitaker
We Whitaker’s consist of 6 humans and an entitled cat. My wife and I met in college and have 3 girls and a boy. We moved to Morgantown from Louisville in 2011. While I myself have a strange fascination with severe weather and running around in the forest, as a family, we enjoy shopping, ice cream, playing with friends, reading, crafting, watching movies, visiting family, and occasionally getting away to a forest cabin or a beach.
While we live in Sabraton, we gather with our community group in the general vicinity and even at a park when the weather is nice. Missionally, we focus on WVU students around the Crossroads Garrison building and also identify needs and opportunities in the existing relational networks among our community group members to work together to share the gospel in those relational connections.
Ben And Sarah Kinsey
We have been attending Crossroads Church since 2016. We were married in June 2018, and Ellie was born Nov. 2020. We currently live in Reedsville in Preston County. We enjoy hiking and taking our daughter on various adventures through West Virginia. Ben teaches band, choir, and music in Preston County. Sarah is a full-time homemaker and subs part-time in Mon County.
We lead the Grafton Rd. group. We meet on Wednesday nights for a meal and sermon discussion. We currently have separate men’s and women’s discipleship groups that meet bi-weekly on Tuesdays. We look to engage those around us in our everyday lives with the gospel. We strive to be a group that invites others in and points them to Christ through worship, serving, and discipleship.
Andrew and Rachel Parsons
Hi there! We are Andrew and Rachel Parsons. We have 4 kids under 4 (when this photo was taken). Please pray for us! But seriously, we are thankful for our family and the Lord’s church at Crossroads that has sustained us since moving to Morgantown in 2021.
We are blessed to lead our family and the Mileground Community group in the heart of Morgantown on Thursday nights. We enjoy spending time with others through meals, sports, and outdoor activities. We hope to meet you working in the hospital, playing on the soccer field, eating at a local restaurant, and hopefully gathering at the church. We have a heart for seeing our brothers and sisters build community in the neighborhoods God has placed them, and build meaningful relationships with the neighbors God has given them. We hope to help strengthen one another in our ability to share the gospel of Christ and push back darkness with truth in love.
Chow and Jen Watkins
Kodey (Chow) and Jennifer Watkins lead the Grafton community group. We meet on Wednesday nights at 6:00 PM. We’d love for you to be involved if you are in the Bridgeport/Clarksburg/Grafton area! We met through the ministry of Crossroads Church, started dating in 2017, got married in 2018, and have two children, Katherine and Zachary. When we aren’t leading a community group, we love to go on adventures as a family, spend time at local restaurants/shops/events in Grafton, and enjoy community with friends throughout the week. Chow enjoys playing music, reading books, and working with his hands, while Jen enjoys watching sports, going on walks, and listening to music. We both enjoy dance parties in the kitchen with Katherine and Zachary!
Our mission focus as a community group of Crossroads Church is to see authentic community, discipleship, and mission happen in the small town of Grafton. Statistics state that 73% of Grafton claims no religious affiliation whatsoever, so we want to be intentional about being invested in the life of the city to be a gospel witness and engage the town with the light of the gospel. We have gone Christmas caroling around the neighborhood, attended high school sports games, and become locals at various locally owned restaurants and storefronts all for the sake of making Jesus known. Come be a part of what God is doing in Grafton, we’d love to have you!
Chase and Erin O'Dell
Erin and I (Chase) host and lead a Crossroads community group at our home in Cheat Lake Tuesdays at 6p. We enjoy a variety of outdoor activities and are steadily accumulating board and card games as our kids figure them out.
Our community has a heart for those called to foster and adoption. We serve together at the Crossroads Foster Closet, sorting and preparing items to support foster and kinship families in the community.
Bryan and Selena Cox
Hello there! We are Bryan and Saleena Cox. We are high school sweethearts who’ve been together since 2003 and married in 2010. We have two kids (a son and a daughter), a dog, and two hermit crabs. We have lived in Morgantown since 2021. We are huge Star Wars, LOTR, and Marvel fans. We enjoy hiking, visiting parks, playing board games, and themed movie nights. We have a heart for seeing our brothers and sisters grow deeper in their knowledge of Christ and their discipleship in him.
We host and lead a community group at our home off Summers School Road in Rock Forge every other Monday at 6pm. We meet for a meal and book/sermon discussion time. Our men’s and women’s discipleship circles meet (alternating) on the off weeks from discussion on Mondays at 6pm as well. You can find out more about our community group through our group’s website – https://summersridgecg.com.
